Frequently Asked Questions

What is a MOOC/SPOC?

MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course. In addition to traditional learning materials such as texts and videos, our MOOCs include:

  • community features that encourage interaction through discussion forums;
  • content creation tools that allow participants to produce and share resources (wikis, blogs, collaborative spaces, etc.);
  • learning activities that promote practice, collaboration and learner autonomy.

Rather than learning alone, you will enjoy a unique learning experience that is engaging, collaborative and motivating.

SPOC stands for Small Private Online Course. Unlike a MOOC, a SPOC is tutor-led and generally includes virtual classes, collaborative work and personalized support. Enrollment may require selection, and cohorts usually range from 100 to 150 participants.

MOOCs are divided into learning sequences. During each sequence, you will explore expert content through readings, videos, audio resources, external websites and other learning materials. You can also complete quizzes and earn badges that recognize your achievements.

In a facilitated MOOC, you can:

  • exchange ideas with other learners and experts through forums;
  • share the resources you create during learning activities;
  • complete activities individually or collaboratively with peers;
  • participate in live virtual classes and webinars.

Everyone can join a MOOC! MOOCs are open to all—you simply need to register.

Yes. All MOOCs available on the AFD Campus platform are free of charge.

Prepare my equipment

To follow a MOOC, you will need a computer, tablet or smartphone with an internet connection.

We recommend using the latest version of your web browser for the best experience.

Enroll in a course

Step 1

(1) If you already have an account
Sign in by clicking "Log in". Use the email address and password you chose when creating your account.

(2) If you do not have an account
Create one by clicking "Log in" and then "Create new account".

Step 2

(3) Once logged in, you have two options:

Option 1: Browse the Featured Courses section, which highlights the three most recent MOOCs. Click a course to enroll.

Option 2: Browse the Resources by Theme section below the featured courses. Select a topic to view all related courses and enroll in the one of your choice.

Yes, most MOOCs have a registration deadline. Courses are first offered as facilitated sessions with learning activities and instructor support. Some MOOCs may remain available afterwards in self-paced mode without facilitation or forum access.

Everyone is welcome to join this course.

Whatever your age, digital skills or previous knowledge, the course is designed to be accessible to all learners.

Log into your account and click the "My Courses" tab. You will find the complete list of courses in which you are enrolled.

Communicate

  • Remember to check your spam folder to ensure you receive all communications from the teaching team.
  • If you would like to subscribe to a forum, unsubscribe from it, or receive only one email per day, you can manage your subscription:
    • Subscribe or unsubscribe from a discussion by clicking the blue button on the right of the discussion.
    • Subscribe or unsubscribe from an entire forum through the forum settings by clicking the gear icon, then selecting "Subscribe to this forum" or "Unsubscribe from this forum".
  • To receive a single daily summary email instead of one email per message, go to your profile menu, select Preferences, then Forum preferences, and choose the message digest option that best suits your needs.

Get organized

Weekly workload depends on each MOOC. In general, you should expect to spend between 2 and 3 hours per week. You can find the estimated workload on each course information page.

The course is available 24/7. You are free to study whenever it suits you—after work, during weekends, or at any other convenient time. Videos and learning resources remain accessible throughout the course.

We recommend completing the entire MOOC. However, you are free to complete all or only part of the course depending on your available time and learning objectives.

Track my progress

Your dashboard includes a progress bar showing the percentage of the course you have completed. It helps you identify what has already been completed and what remains.

No. Your progress bar measures your completion of course activities, while badges measure your success in assessments. It is possible to earn all badges without reaching 100% completion, and vice versa.

A certificate is a digital proof of successful completion. It is awarded once you have completed all required activities in the MOOC.

Option 1

Open the relevant course and locate the activity named Certificate at the end of the course.

Option 2

Open your Profile and select My Certificates. You will find the complete list of certificates you have earned.

  • Name correction

    Send an email to campus@afd.fr including:

The name displayed on your certificate is taken directly from your registration profile. Please make sure your first and last names are correctly capitalized before enrolling.

If you are struggling to understand a concept or complete an activity, use the discussion forum—other learners and facilitators can help. You may also contact bekkersc@afd.fr.

A badge is a digital credential awarded each time you successfully complete an assessment. Our knowledge badges recognize achievement in quizzes and other evaluation activities.

All badges you have earned are available from your personal dashboard.

I'm experiencing technical issues

If your password or email address is not recognized, click “Forgotten your password?” to receive a password reset email.

We also recommend checking that your browser is up to date before trying to log in again.

Check your browser settings. We recommend using the latest version of your browser and allowing pop-up windows.

Technical requirements – Use Google Chrome

Depending on your browser settings, some activities or videos may be blocked. Please make sure that pop-ups and redirects are enabled.

To do so:

  1. Click the padlock icon on the left side of the browser address bar.
  2. Open Site settings.
  3. Select Pop-ups and redirects and choose Allow.

If this does not solve the issue:

  • Click the blocked pop-up icon in your browser's address bar.
  • Select Always allow pop-ups and redirects from this site.

If you experience difficulties completing certain activities on your smartphone, ensure that your browser is up to date and that pop-ups are allowed. If the problem persists, try opening the course in Google Chrome.
